My trusty American Heritage Dictionary of the Eng. Lang. 4th Ed. has three definitions for “meteoric”. The last:
3. Similar to a meteor in speed, brilliance, or brevity: a meteoric rise to fame.
‘brevity’ is the key word there- – it DOES have speed, and it IS brilliant …..but not for long
