Click-to-enlarge image 2 clicks from here (which discusses the Aix Annunciation triptych, of which this is a panel). The Google translation of its title is Annunciation altar, left wing, inside the bottom: Isaiah, middle panel: Annunciation, right wing, inside: Jeremiah (reconstruction of the preserved parts). That link has the (hxw) Dimensions for the 3 panels which it lists as: 102 × 68 cm, 155 × 176 cm, 152 × 86 cm; a 3 cm (~1.2") difference in height between panels I can understand, but 50?? Sometimes Wikipedia isn’t that reliable. This shows more intense colors for this panel. Thanks @Baslim the begger for letting me know who this is. If you want to read the bios in his link, this and this have the same words, plus the embedded links, lost when his link just copied the words (a personal peeve of mine). An enlargement of the Prophet Jeremiah and Christ painting in his link is available here along with a discussion. This (look for Jeremiah) also discusses painting aspects of the panel. So far, only work by this artist to appear in Mr. Melcher’s blog.
@Joe from yesterday. I wasn’t questioning your translation. Google translated it as The country children. My Children link had it as Village Children; maybe that’s what you were correcting. But maybe I made a mistake by posting the painting caption from the here link; it no doubt changed some minds about what was depicted and may have stopped others from posting.
What I don’t understand is – if the Catholic church says that birth control is wrong, it would seem that they are saying “breed all you can”; why then, are their priests not supposed to marry? Does the RC church not consider them good fathers?
vrsaz: Dogsniff: Have you EVER submitted any comments that are funny or even mildly amusing?Oh my gosh, he/she posts the most consistently funny comments, and does it almost every day. And fast too. He has a keen eye for details hidden in the comics, and a vast wealth of obscure references, and ties it all together with a unique point of view. Sometimes he/she might step on a few toes (politics, religion, etc) but its all in humor.
