I, remember the first time I tried to order a coffee in one of these upscale emporiums of caffenated beverages. I, stood there dumbfounded as I tried to order a plain cup of coffee and was presented with about a dozen choices. After picking the one that sounded the least pretensious and paying way more than any cup of coffee in worth, I took a sip of the most vial tasting liquid and promptly threw it in the trash as I exited. Apparently my palet is not developed enough for the finer things in life.

Ah yes, perhaps they put a vial of something in that caffeinated pretentious cup to make it extra vile for your palate.

That’s why plain water has become so popular.

Sounds like a Monty Python skit…or…

    an episode of “Frasier.”

If “Coffee”, unadorned by adjectives, is not on the menu, then I order in the manner of Capt. Picard of Star Trek: The Next Generation — “Tea. Earl Gray. Hot.”

Some of those facilities manage to keep their beverages undrinkably hot for 20 minutes or more. In such cases, I ask for a small cup of ice, and add ice cubes until I can drink what I ordered.

What ever happened to just plain ‘ol coffee? I remember the time when you just had one type of coffee. Decaf wasn’t even offered. You’r waitress never let your cup empty until you told her “no More Please” and it might have cost a quarte at the most.
