Transcript:
Janis: Come on! Watch it with me!
Arlo: No...
Janis: It's very popular! Critics love it!
Arlo: It's a matter of principle.
Arlo: I see enough advertising!
Arlo: I refuse to watch a show about people who make advertising!
Ah; Mad Men. I found it hilarious, if terribly, well, dated (yeah, yeah, it’s supposed to be the sixties, right?) I remember the sixties, so I wasn’t there; overseas part of the time…
at least they don’t make a show about the factory end of the advertising business. like the factories that make the signs and other display items that are there in the stores to help sell a product.
I well understand his point. I don’t watch a show about a serial killer who’s presented as limiting his kills to “bad people.” rather than the invariable reality that they’re amoral psychopaths capable of nothing but a manipulative relationship and having no use for society at all and immune to positive influence. Nor am I entertained by meth cooks, absolute scum. I deal with both types and their grief. If you can be amused by either, you’re perhaps fortunate but naive.
You must have been seeing re-runs on your local TV station. “I Married Joan” ran on NBC in the early fifties. It went on the air right after “I Love Lucy” started on CBS. “Bewitched” ran on ABC starting in the mid-60s.

Did you see Lane beat up Pete? We’ve been wanting someone to do that for four seasons.
Superb writing, great acting. I feel sorry for my friends to can’t get past the fact that several of these people are not nice.

I’m with you, Arlo. Heck, I work in advertising and I have no interest in watching a show about people who make ads!
