The colleges should not be giving athletic scholarships at all, and the NFL and NBA should be running their own minor league systems, just like MLB. That will never happen. The colleges are too greedy, but that’s my dream.
Eliminate all “athletic” rides (I refuse to call them SCHOLARships) and only give grant in aids for any who need financial help, which is about 90% of students anyway. Oh wait that is Division 3 & NAIA.
I understand what you are saying. The only problem is that some of them might be too old to play by the time they finally got their “four year” degree.
You’ll never convince me that an 18-year-old high school graduate who is allowed to enlist in the military and be dodging IEDs in the Middle East within a year should be kept from pursuing a job as an athlete instead. Is it safer to drive the streets of Kabul than to drive the lane at Madison Square Garden? I’d be a little more concerned about some nutjob with an explosive than Tyson Chandler, but that’s just me.
Yeah, but some professors like to cooperate with the athletic department and give the less successful scholar athletes a break, and some of the academic assistants in the athletic department do much more than assist. In the bad old days, Dexter Manley lasted four years at Oklahoma State despite the fact that he was functionally illiterate. Somebody did a lot of covering for Dexter.

One-and-done…three-and-done…they’re jokes.
