Pearls Before Swine by Stephan Pastis for May 12, 2012
Transcript:
Man: Excuse me, sir, but would you like to support our cause? Maybe sign some of our petitions? Mr. Death: I'm sorry. I'm not very political. Man: Oh, please, sir.. We've been here in the hot sun all day. Could you at least just wear one of our shirts or something? Mr. Death: Alright, alright, fine. This is awkward.

Is death really such a pushover?
Arianne over 12 years ago
Wow, he’s playing both sides of an issue just like a pro. And here he thought he wasn’t very political!

Why not? If the president can do it….

Death. Be not proud. If there was no life, you’d be out of a gig.

Cute. Wonder if Death watches TV— Pushing Up Daisies (now dead); Dead Like Me (now apparently dead): Reaper (now mostly dead). If so, he may need to (ahem) Get A Life!BTW, those are all shows I liked….

You’ve made a small mistake. Mainly 9 months of invetro. That’s an extra 388800 minutes or so.

Of course, sometimes being Pro-Life ends up in Death anyway [especially if you’re an Abortionist caught by an Abortion Clinic Bomber] so it all works out. But when you get right down to it, Death IS Pro-Life. If nothing died how long do you think it would be before this planet was completely unlivable?Maybe if they had the T-Shirt in Gray or Black it would clash less with his robe? That would make it less awkward.

But some of us LIKE making idiot political/moral statements about the comics we read. That’s HOW we enjoy the comic for JUST being a comic.

Actually, it’s not that awkward. Pro-lifers are only pro-fetus. When it’s born, it’s fair game; pro-lifers are notoriously pro-execution and pro-gun. So the shirt actually works pretty well.
GrandmotherMuhawt over 12 years ago
Loved it! The ongoing ironies in the one frame point up the paradox that so called “pro-lifers” are not really pro-life at all. Most love the death penalty, carry concealed weapons, hae threatening slogans (ie. We don’t call 911), and revel at violent sports. In this strip, the whiners (so appropriate) even coerce death to support their fictional point of view! ROFL

I agree, though: death is not political. Death is inevitable, and doesn’t care about the laws or what party you belong to.

Why wouldn’t Death be pro-life, without it, he would be out of a job.
Sherlock Watson over 12 years ago
You know, “Pro” has more than one meaning. Maybe the shirt doesn’t mean “Anti-choice,” but “Live like a prostitute.”

Look, the sammysuckers of the world have to make things up, rather than debate the issues, because in reality Obama is a centrist by ALL definitions…1994, Newt Ginrich: We will never win on our arguments, We have to attack their character and humanity. And it’s been that way ever since. I haven’t heard one damn thing that was even remotely true about Obama from ANY republican. Would it be wrong to call them rat finks? Who cares? You Rat Finks! ♫ ♪ ♫ "Instant Karma Gonna Get You.. "♪♫ ♪♫….
