Frazz by Jef Mallett for May 11, 2012
Transcript:
Mrs. Olsen: Here's an amusing antidote... Caulfield: No. Here's one: ...so the sorcerer says, "This potion will stop the witch's poison from turning you into a frog if we massage it into your skin soon enough." And the prince says, "Rrrrub it!" That's an anecdote about an antidote! Mrs. Olsen: He's rude, but he's not dumb. Frazz: Caulfield is the anti-dolt.

Not many kids would. Because the kids that would are being diagnosed as ADD and ADHD and drugged into good little dolts.

Remember “Be A-Lert…American needs Lerts…”

She was setting him up to get the right answer, testing him. She’s not so dumb either…

I wonder how many immediately surfed to the eggcorn database to find out the frequency of usage for “amusing antidote?”

OK, there’s “anec-” and there’s “anti-” which brings us to the question: what is a “dote”?

I love how Mallet so often writes the strips like an essay: there’s the setup, the middle, and the ending panel that refers back to the opening.
And that ending panel is so very often a pun all its own. Very well done.

lert? There is I-LERT. That’s Inter-Lutheran Emergency Response Team – encouraging individuals and congregations to prepare for emergencies/disasters. If individuals and congregations aren’t prepared, they can’t help others. An emergency supply of food & water is an antidote for hunger and thirst.

Jeff,
I continue to be amused, made thoughtful, and wonderfully entertained by Frazz. I hope you know how much of a positive impact the smiles you create lift us up each day. Well done!

i dont understand it, how can an anecdote be about an anecdote, wouldnt there have to be a story within a story?
