Frazz by Jef Mallett for May 16, 2012
Transcript:
Girl: If you hold butter under your chin and it reflects the yellow, does it mean you like dandelions? Frazz: Other way around. Girl: According to the commutative property, it should work both ways. Frazz: That's a numerical property. Girl: SO much for math explaining everything. Caulfield: Or everything explaining math.

Just as they expected …..math is just there to make school harder….

Oy, that old canard again.
The commutative property isn’t even universal in math; just try to say that 5 – 2 is the same as 2 – 5 and see how far you get.

Now you’re talking higher math skills, leaves me out. Never liked it

I was always told that was Buttercup flowers, not Dandelion flowers…

The commutative property applies to operations. The dandelion – butter relationship is an equation, not an operation. Also, the inverse of “dandelions reflect implies likes butter” is “likes butte implies dandelions reflect,” not “butter reflects implies likes dandelions.”

But can the mathematics graduate prove that reality exists?

As an extreme case…such as irreversible thermodynamic processes…such as combusting gas in a car engine…you CAN’T reverse it,ie, take the various vapors and reassemble them into crude oil, for instance.
Like a forest, or a meadow paved over. That’s how WEALTH is created…but it DOESN’T work in reverse.

Cruel, but oh so unfortunately true.

They’re using the wrong logic, too… “All lemons are yellow so all yellow plants must be lemons!”

Barring the obvious and obscene, Goat Dancing Academy, Global Domination Alliance, Genetically Diverse Aardvarks….really, I can haver on like this all day.

It’s buttercups that reflect yellow on your chin, not dandelions.

A dandelion will not reflect on a face, Jeff. The flower that children hold under the chin is a buttercup. Its shiny petals actually reflect a bright yellow light on the skin.

re: statement 5-2 does not equal 2-5: your reasoning is incorrect. 5-2 = 2 +5, therefore commutative rule still applies. Remember there is no subtraction, only adding of negatives, and there is no division, only multiplying of fractions :)

I’m not sure if MeanBob is talking to someone else about the means of Frazz’s shirt, but I was seeing it as GdA, which I read as “G’day”.
