Mike: Alex up yet? Kim: Yup. She went over to talk to her mom about the wedding. Mike: Shudder. Kim: Why shudder? Mike: J.J.'s going to want to hijack it, turn it into an art project, like HER wedding! J.J.: Okay, so the first thing you'll need is a fire permit... Alex: Actually not, Mom. We're going in a different direction.

Why marry?
Whitecamry over 12 years ago
Alex, two words: “common law.”

JJ also lives in the Seattle area; so yes, “went over” is correct.

I’m not sure you’ve been reading at all. Leo is one of the more perceptive characters and has passed his interview with his future mother in law.

Ok, here’s a partial list
1. Fire permit.2. Alert local HASMAT team.3. Wear camo and use only full metal jacket ammo! 4. Use real, sharpened bamboo for the Punji stakes!
more to come…

I hope to get married in a church wedding someday. Although, one of my cousins were married on a beach. They know have two beautiful girls.

Hey lawyers have got to eat too! Well honestly most of us hate domestic cases with a passion! Give me a good fight with an insurance company or prosecutor any day. SO much less hate…

TOGGLE!
Since you have upper-middle class and trailer-park families, they should meet in Vegas and do a wacky Elvis-themed chapel with reception at some place like The Bellagio.

“Toggle” is …… drum roll….. Leo.

“Until mood do us part” is the new paradigm, with over 50% of marriages failing, and serial spouses becoming more norm. Leo and Alex have already survived more stress than would separate the “average American couple”, so they should be good. It’s about giving, not taking, to survive, so kinda’ “unAmerican” any more, right?

haha…Oh, that’s why :)

@basshwy“Why Marry?”It’s in our genetics. For girls, (I speak from a houseful of sisters and cousin-ettes,) it’s ‘the occasion’. Pomp and circumstance, showing all and sundry that she’s been ‘taken’.. For boys; It’s the emotion of coming home with a dead deeracross one’s shoulders, never to be in the hunt again.

J.J. is a performance artist, so she will also need lots of chocolate sauce.

Oh, come on who doesn’t want to see a full on wedding bash that, knowing Alex, will also be environmentally friendly with recycled wedding gown from her Mum and socially responsible wedding loot?

I believe this strip takes place entirely in the Seattle area. Mike asked Kim if Alex was up, which means Alex is staying with Mike and Kim. Kim said Alex went to see J.J., which means J.J. lives close to them.

Mike and Kim live in Seattle, Alex is in school at MIT or has just graduated (?), and JJ is in NYC, iirc. Kim is on a laptop, so could be communicating with Alex on her FB page or IM or whatever… of course I could be completely wrong.

According to Doonesbury.com, both Mike and JJ live in Seattle.
