I knew I read this somewhere.

It didn’t take long to find it again. This is the strip from 6/7/1983. But it’s in color now :)(I’m not remembering this from 20 years ago or anything lol. A few months back I was introducing myself to the original strips of FBFW and that included this one. That’s why I recognized it today.)

It wasn’t like they were only issued in Canada back then, and have only recently come to light in the US. Our paper carried the originals, pretty much from day one.

“You show me yours and I’ll show you mine” takes on a whole new meaning… especially when he doesn’t think “his” is quite up to snuff…

I can’t think that Johnston doesn’t have a say as to whether her re-printed strips can be colorized or not. But if the technology were available and it was cost-effective back in 1983, the strips might have been in color anyway.

The old Calvin strips (on this website) are not being colorized, I assume due to the author’s wishes. So I assume Johnston either doesn’t mind the coloring for FBoFW, or actually wants it.

I know the Seattle Times carried FBoFW pretty much throughout its run…it was probably my favorite strip by the time it ended. And I LIKE the colorization. It’s possible that they were drawn in color but run in b/w by the papers. It costs money to print in color.

I don’t understand why you responded “who cares”. I wasn’t being negative or anything. I was just pointing out something that I noticed and was proud of myself for remembering a strip from 1983. That’s all.I don’t mind whether it’s in color now, is over 20 yrs old or when they came out in which country…. I know all of that already and I just like the comic itself.

    Probably a misunderstanding…

“. . . and many of us, who don’t live in Canada, are seeing them for the first time”And some of us are so old that we’ve forgotten 95% of what we’ve seen anyhow.

“I wish GoComics would let us correct our typos without rewriting the whole damn message!”I’m forever making typos and various other mistakes. I just copy the whole concern, go up to the “reply” thing on whoever’s comment, paste my original reply, make the correction(s), post the new reply, and go down and delete the original. Takes less time to do that than it did for me to type all this.

While I’m on a roll, one day I saw that a commenter had managed to type something in italics. I’ve tried to copy and paste from another site, but it just comes out like this:italics. (I can make something bold by putting an * before and after the word.) How do you do the italics thing?

And that’s how kids got their “self-esteem” the old-fashioned way… find someone dumber/weaker/shorter etc. ;-)

Don’t sweat it – we are commenting on comic strips, not writing resumes!

Re yesterday: why animals prefer running water verses standing: Over the years, animals learned that they were more likely to get sick from standing (often stagnent) water than that which was free flowing.

Thanks ever so much to the Great Minds, underwriter, GretchensMom, and JP Steve! First I tried underwriter’s url and thrashed around a bit, getting this: textitalicstext then this: italics . Then tried GretchensMom’s hint and got this: italics . Even before seeing JP Steve’s cautionary note, I figured out what was wrong and got this: italics . (Good idea to warn me about that, JP – I could have missed it.) ♥♥♥ you all!

Hi Susan — You can correct fairly easily. Just “copy” what you’ve written, delete it, “paste” it back in and make the correction.
