I once knew a couple who were the classic case of “The moon rocks!? I thought you packed them!” One more than one occasion I took a kid of theirs home after some event that both parents attended, driving separate cars; so each thought the other had the kid.

Just always keep them in the closet; it worked for that couple in NY when they went on vacation.
