I don’t think the New England meaning of “wicked” is exactly arcane knowledge these days…. it’s even been used commercially for decades… e.g. “Pete’s Wicked Ale,” LL Bean’s “Wicked good slippers.” Nor are the historic failures of Boston teams a secret even to non-sports-fans like me.As for the “bad timing”… are there still people out there who think the comics are submitted the day before publication??This was done and sent to the publishers months ago.No one could have possibly predicted anybody’s death in the intervening time, and it’s almost impossible to even pull a strip, as the page is set up and sometimes printed way ahead.
SusanSunshine has it right, but the timing could not have worked out better the way the Sox are playing right now. It’s just too bad that it did come out the day after Carleton Beane died. I’m curious if any of Guy, Rodd, or Dan are from New England.
I’m a Yankees fan, and of course the Red Sox are the team we love to hate…but there is still respect, and love for the rivalry. RIP Carl Beane. I’d love to see the Yankees and Red Sox battle it out for something besides last place in the division!

Wait, which witch is which? Which witch is pitching? Too bad nothing rhymes with pitching that begins with a “B”…..shame really….
