I can’t believe I’m still up! I usually read FB late at night, but not usually when the strip flips to the next day. On a related topic, here’s “The High and the Low: Good to the Bone” — a great, funny story ‘In praise of fried chicken—gristle and all’ http://gardenandgun.com/article/high-and-low-good-bone
That third wedding photo on FB! I can’t stop laughing! (When am I going to get some sleep????) Lantern-Head Woman! Male Member Man! (I know it’s a palm tree, but Look!) The woman picking her nose! Would you ever pick your nose at a wedding unless you HATED the bride?!?!
As the ancient Greeks did so reasonably with their sacrifices to their gods, so here: I gladly cede you the gristle and fat, and I’ll just take the leftover lean meat, thank you.
What happened to yesterday’s comic? And the other FA strips that never saw the light of computer monitor? Are they waiting in limbo for their next chance at this world? Or have they been interred in the Tomb of the Unknown Comic (and in that case, is it something more suitable than a brown paper bag?)
There is nothing good about gristle, but fat and bone add so much flavor. I am craving a ribeye steak, served rare with two eggs over medium with hash browns and a Pacifico
my dog gets to gnaw on the bone after i am done with it.to quote Louie Prima, “the meat is sweeter closer to the bone”.of course he wasn’t talking about steak. he was talking about his skinny girlfriend…
Teresa, even if I had been upset at any delay in posting my photos, you fixed it unknowingly by posting a photo of Jane Birkin shortly the pictures. Shhh, don’t tell my wife I said that.
@Blog: PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA (1953) Here is a 1959 Chevy, {see the blog-car on the left.} http://www.automotiveartists.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/1959-chevrolet-impala-convertible-3.jpg
@APersonOfInterest- off-topic and almost out of the blue, but do the names Harvey’s, Alex, and Elaine ring a 1972 Cape May bell, since you asked about the Jim Nice quote?
The San Francisco 1938 picture is connected to California’s “Ham and Eggs” movement, which was a public pension plan of sorts to provide credits worth thirty dollars a week to everyone over fifty (quite a bit of money in those days). The idea was that the recipients would spend the money right away, boosting the economy while keeping themselves out of poverty. This movement was an offshoot of the earlier Townsend Plan. Some details are at
@Teresa:I see the Pbgh ’53 blog entry has been updated. Thanks! I might have been the earliest to point out the anachronism,but “no habla” gave more info. I should have known you would not be swayed by status. My sincere apologies.

Not much on gristle, but my wife rightly pointed out that Bacon is mostly fat, and there can never be enough Bacon…

@Teresa: While I appreciate your Philly correspondent’s diligence, I must point out that my carefully captured comment does say “South 5th Street”.

I love meat glue. It really ties together the saline-injected ammonia-washed watered down soggy beef I buy at my Kroger.

Hot dog and coke for 15¢ – I sure remember that. I was about 10 years too late for “2¢ plain”, though.

That’s honestly my favorite part about steak. My family loves me because I always take the fattiest steaks and leave them with the lean ones.

The Pittsburgh 1953 photo must be at least 6 years later, as the Chevrolet on the left is a 1959.
