I wonder why James M. Smith, Sr. nicknamed him “Gizmo.” (Rhetorical question, every other “Pluggers” reader.)

Why do people need a nickname anyway?!!

…people don’t need them….its an acquired sign of recognition within a small community or club atmosphere..it’s like a “pet name” and hopefully not derogatory…..it doesn’t necessarily work in a larger urban context

A nickname is a blessing when your folks hang some stupid handle on you at birth.

They had to give the guy a nickname. There were three other Jim Smiths in town.

Especially Servicemen and women, Who ever knew the person’s real name. Usually only their lastname, or a nickname. Just sign me Frogger.
