Wilberforce: Jack says his parents are starting to save for his college education.
Wilberforce: Have you started saving for mine yet?
Brutus: Saving for your college education? I'm still paying for mine!
Student loans are protected by the government, meaning we are not allowed to abandon student loan debt in bankruptcies, because the government protects the interests of the banking industry, instead of caring about making education available to all.
My tuition in 1967 for the Fall Semester at U. of SW La (now Louisiana-Lafayette) was $50.00 as an in-state resident. It was $75 the following Spring to pay for the yearbook.
In 1965 my first year fees were $50.00 for instate at Mo. State U. (which at that time was Southwest Mo. State College) and by the time I graduated, they were a whopping $125.00 or less, I can’t remember now.
