Now isn’t that a coincidence?
gmartin997 = maybe a Margaret somewhere hadda peg ??
Steely Dan had a Peg. Short for Peggy?
same as “Ted” for Edward…“Bob” for Robert and “Dick” for Richard…..and on and on and on…“who da thunk it?”
….nice one…“.I lean”
Why Peggy is the nickname for Margaret.
How did they get Jack out of John?
Possibly through the Irish derivative and diminutive Pegeen. Other nicknames of Margaret are Pearl and Daisy — because the name derives originally from the Greek word for Pearl and in Spain, daisies are called margaritas.
Margaret, Margie, Maggie, Meggie-Peggy. Get it now.
Jack comes from the French version of John: Jacque. Then you have: Richard, Richie, Ricky, Dicky, Dick. You can learn more from a name book.
Meg is a nickname for Margaret and Peg probably devolved from that.
@iced tea: the French version of John is Jean.
I wonder if Peg hooks in the evening while her sailor is at sea?
