Nice aviation stuff on the blog tpoday. There have been a lot of freaky flying platforms like the Hiller VZ-1:

    http://www.vectorsite.net/avplatfm.html

They had a lot of weaknesses, one of which was that if you used them as scout vehicles in a combat zone, you essentially had an unprotected man standing on a slow-moving platform. That’s likely to get you shot down in a hurry.

The grandaddy of all flying platforms was the WW I Austro-Hungarian PKZ-2:

    http://www.aviastar.org/helicopters_eng/petroczy.php

It never entered service, but if it had worked it probably would have made a good replacement for the observation balloons used over the trenches.

The flying hovercar had an inflatable ancestor:

I don’t know if it was equipped with those six-abreast Goodyear headlights.

Aldous Huxley said, “Next to complete silence, music comes closest to expressing the inexpressible.”Too bad today’s FA didn’t come with a sound track. Maybe English needn’t have entered the conversation.

I like the concept of Slab City. I have been there a couple of times, but I preferred the atmospher of driftwood huts and nudity at Wreck Bay on Vancouver Island in the early 1970’s. That was in the days before it was made into a national park and you needed to take logging roads instead of a paved highway to get there.

Being a child of the ‘50s, I live my life asking the question, “Where the hell is my flying car?” Many of your recent blog entries have partially answered this question, the flying car (like the water carburetor) is being suppressed by the government.

By the way, have you met IrinaTe’s sister UrinaTe?

That Jalapeño Roaster on the blog looks interesting, but I’m not growing any this year. I’ve got Hatch green chiles, garden salsa (sort of replaces Jalapeño as it’s bigger and better tasting), red chiles, cayenne peppers, poblanos, cherry bomb, Thai dragon, and a bunch of sweet peppers.

Horsing around…horsiees with nice broad round backs are the best. Really great…narrow backs are hell to ride without a saddle, at least if you’re a guy. Some women love the back fender of a Harley with one of those extra little padded handles…if I ever get another bike, it’s gotta have one of those. Before i wreck myself on it I’ll turn a lot of women into MC groupies…“Road trip…!” ride in on a weekend and have the yard full of waiting girls…oooh, yes! I can see it now.You too.

Thank God for the FAA and regulation! Can you picture Donny Dimwit or his sister Dora trying to text and FLY? There are more than enough problems dealing with them in two dimensions.
