Enlarged image available from here. That website, devoted to works at the current-location, lists this artist as the author, but its current location lists UNKNOWN for the author of Portrait of Rubens with his Son Albert (Note to Mr. Melcher: a child’s hair length and clothing are not strong gender indicators). Its current-location describes it here. The artist’s Wikipedia page and collection (much more available in the Subcategories at each level), and Catholic Encyclopedia bio.Second of the 4 works by this artist, that have, so far, appeared in Mr. Melcher’s blog, to also appear here.
OK, some of you may have noticed that some of the links in that aren’t working. To get them to work, you have to do the search yourself (the links are specific for the search I did). To get them to work:1. Click DIGITAL COLLECTION in the current-location page.2. Click Paintings, Prints, and Drawings3. Click Advanced Search (end of list on the left)4. If not already, set the category to Paintings, Prints, and Drawings, and the type to Painting, and click next.5. Click the select from index next to Author.6. In the window that appears, find UNKNOWN (not UNKNOWN ARTIST) and click it.7. Set the Date range boxes to 1600 and 1700, and click search.8. This painting is currently number 53 in that list, so advance to the next page until it appears, and click on it.9. That should show the description, my second here link. If you click on the second full image choice, that is my lists link. That image is what I used in the Portrait of Rubens with his Son Albert link.

Here is another work by this artist (but as Southern Netherlandish — adds 3 more, so far, to the number by him in Mr. Melcher’s blog).
