shortly after seeing “The Birds” in the 70s, a bird tried to take some of my hair for a nest…at least that is my rationalization, I am sure he was not really attacking me…:P
The story that “The Birds” came from, by Daphne Du Maurier I think, did not have an explanation for the bird attacks either. I think there was a comment about what caused Nature to act in this fashion but I’m not sure.
Nice racist sadistic movie. Ever watch the then-current cartoons of the blackbirds and their wise-ass attacks on WHITE people? maybe you get what Hitchie was saying…he was just afraid, that’s all.
Hitchcock would leave some things unexplained in order to let the viewers imagination fill in the gaps. Sometimes not knowing why things happen makes them even more fearful.

Loved that movie. It gave my little brother nightmares for months.

The Birds. One of my personal favorites, and IMHO, one of the best movies ever.

Considering the technology at the time, the Birds was a great achievement. Not having the ending nicely sewed up is part of its mystique.
Nice work C&B, you have really held true to the McNelly formula.

A good Hitchcock movie, but he’s done many better ones. I, too, would have liked an explanation for the bird attacks.
