Man: Starch? Onion: Bulb.
fiber
Neither, ROOT !
I do not get this at all.
Tuber or not tuber, that is the question.
I love it!
Is he suppose to be a starchy bulb?
I’m with Konrad. I don’t get the cartoon, and JohnnyDiego’s explanation makes no sense to me, either.
Lite-bulb?
No time today…. but I just had to say everybody’s making it too hard!
The counterman says “Starch?” meaning “Do you want starch in your shirt?”
The onion replies “Bulb,” meaning “No, actually, I’m not a starch; I’m a bulb!”
Kinda like the old “It’s windy!” “No I think it’s Thursday”“Me too, lets go have a beer” routine…..except misunderstanding, not mishearing.
Onions, BTW, are bulbs, which are fleshy, usually underground, stems, above the roots, which produce leaves above ground.
Tubers, OTOH, are underground root protuberances, like potatoes or begonia tubers, which can create plants by forming new roots and stems.
Thank you Susan Sunshine, I can always count on you to make things abundantly clear
Just in case anybody comes back…. I realised later… tubers can be attached to the stem OR root, cos potatoes are called stem tubers… but in any case, they store starch, and bulbs do not.Sigh… college was a long time ago.
