    I’d pass on the juice.

Today I’ll be making the traditional French Canadian Meat Pie. There’s plenty to go around.

    Merry Christmas, Tribe.

Knightman, I began making it a Christmas tradition when I first moved from Dallas to Houston. I began to miss some of the foods from my native Montreal. We used to have turkey on Canadian Thanksgiving and Christmas as well. Personally, by Christmas I was sick of turkey. Apparently, the meatpie or “tortiere” is a traditional French Canadian dish on Christmas eve.

When my Mom died, which was shortly before I had to relocate to Houston, I decided to start my own tradition by having Tur-Duc-Hen on Thanksgiving and the meat pie on Christmas Eve. I just don’t like turkey that much to eat so much of it over a one-month span.

The meat pie is such a big thing in Quebec, that they actually sell it in the frozen food section of grocery stores there. But it’s much better if made from scratch.

Here is a link to a recipe page here on this site if you’re interested in trying out this and other dishes by fellow posters here. CD recipe page

Good Morning, and Merry Christmas to the whole Tribe.

We’re having the traditional Polish Velia meatless meal tonight. Fish, potatoes and home made Pierogi. Tomorrow we’ll have a stuffed turkey breast, kielbasa, candied yams, and home made pumpkin pie.

I’ll make lots, so y’all can stop by and eat and visit. :))

Not in my family. My children are adults. We now draw names as my family includes mom as my dad is gone, sister/husband. We do not hopen on Christmas Eve. We do go to candlelight service. We wait until CHRISTmas day after we eat then open gifts. We have a limit we spend.
