Arlo and Janis by Jimmy Johnson for June 09, 2012
Transcript:
Gus: Arlo, what would it take for me to put you in this boat today? Gus: Yeah, I even sold cars when I was starting out! Arlo: I don't mean to sound wishy-washy, Gus, but it's a big decision! Arlo: Can we sleep on it tonight? Gus: I had Mary Lou put fresh linen on the bunk this morning!

after all these years of watching this strip, it would ruin it if Arlo gets the boat. Kinda like if Charlie finally actually kicks the football with Lucy holding it.

Wasn’t Janis in favor of buying this same boat once before?

I think it would give more story potential if he finally gets the boat. C’mon, he deserves it FINALLY!!

Hopefully, Janis will say, “Yes, My Captain, YES” on the fresh linen.

Instead of sleeping on it, Arlo, how about taking it out on the water?! And what kind of car salesman wouldn’t suggest that?
unca jim over 12 years ago
Gus’s opening line in panel 1 made me LOL about car salesmanship, and panel 2 confirmed it for me. I seldom laff at ‘toons, but this one got me, as I’ve ‘interfaced’with too many car salesmen in my lifetime.

OK, once more; They eventually buy the boat, Gene and Mary Lou get married, likely next spring. Either they take over the restaurant as Gus retires/passes away, or he sells it, they take up farming or some other. Mary Lou is pregnant with their child, then we see Arlo, and Janis sailing away into the sunset, possibly Gus with the kids waving from the dock and JJ signing off as he moves on to other endeavors. I tell you folks, this is the closing chapter, believe it or not. The pieces are coming together, right JJ?

You know folks, Jimmy’s made a lot of changes as time’s gone on, so what’s to say A&J don’t become boat people? (I’m picturing Ludwick in a life vest.)

My question is…. where is Arlo going to moor the boat if he buys it. That tends to be the #1 challenge of sailing craft ownership… especially the large ones with typical monthly mooring fees of $3 a foot and up.

I figured you did, otherwise you wouldn’t have posted it. LOL
