G’morning everybody…… everybody? Must still be asleep…..This is very early for me, too…but I’ve been away and I couldn’t wait to see you all, so I took the very first bus.So much has been going on…
Like Scooter yesterday, Martin has a real need to express himself … to make his mark on the world, so to speak. But he’s about to have a brush with disaster, if he keeps insisting on black paint.Ballard Street is home to many rugged individualists…. well, some not so rugged ones too…. but all showing that important drive to exce … to succee … OK at least to invent, successful or not.To dream. To … well… to…. um…I don’t know what…. but they DO it, by gum!
There’s a lot of catching up to do… but some will have to be tomorrow… I’m sleepier than I thought….gonna have to head for the salon and take a loooong napzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz….sptfff… sputter…OH! Where was I?Beviek… you’re not still upset with me…. are you?I didn’t mean any harm…. ever. And we have to work together to help the (future Sheriff!) Monkey….and find Essex!
StelBel…. can you wear that octopus suit on Ballard St.?It looks awfully well armed. And X-Tech…………….I forgot to saaaaazzzz…um… what? Honestly, I was just resting my eyezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
You passed along my recommendation for FireFox and said I might want to add to it….
Too sleepy for this sort of discussion but I do want to say that the clincher for me, compared to IE, Chrome .. can’t remember in Opera but I think in that one too….last time I tested them, FireFox was the ONLY one that enlarges the text in THIS BOX, not just on the rest of the page. And text enlargement is separate, so it does it WITHOUT enlarging everything else…. no giant images and banners, no scrolling cos you only see part of the page now that it’s huge.
I really don’t believe there are any more virus attacks using FireFox than any other browser…Viruses attack operating systems, not browsers…. and it’s your antivirus software that stops them.A browser can stop pop-ups, if it has a good pop-up blocker… but that’s a display issue, and browsers are about display….they don’t run your computer, they show you the internet. Sorta like glasses that let you see what’s stored on servers.X you know more about that last stuff …. if I said it wrong you can correct me….But switching browsers is NOT a big deal…. nor is it permanent. You can have several browsers on your computer and just open the one you want to use….More on all this later if anybody wants to know.I’m not a tech, x or otherwise… But I do seem to know (when I’m not so tired) how to explain things, which is why I tutor computer newbies…so if you have a question… feel free.
What I meant by THIS BOX is FireFox is the only browser in which these poor eyes can see what I’m typing in comment boxes — an enlarged font and Spell Czech, too, for what that’s worth.
“Why oh why is that blue hair always only half colored in. It’s beginning to get on my last nerve.”++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++On mine, too.
OMG, all of a sudden, you started speaking all these foreign words: Linux, OS, Mint, Ubuntu, Debian Linux….names right out of Star Trek!!! LOL I never heard of any of them, and now I’m really aware of how little I know about this stuff. Well, I’ve got enough homework for the next couple of days.Thank you for this info. What IMudd is talking about isn’t more browsers but using an operating system called linux instead of Windows. All those names are forms of Linux. It’s way beyond what most of you have any interest in exploring at this point. Imudd, that stuff is for people who care about learning how computers work, not for those who use them as a means to read comics and get email. Way too confusing for this discussion! Anyhow, too many browsers won’t crash your computer. You don’t use them at the same time. You open a browser and go on the internet…it’s just the “window” you’re looking through.
Remember, I compared it to glasses?
It’s actually interpreting what you see, which you don’t have to worry about… Just choose the one that gives you the view you like. For me, that’s Firefox. But if I want to see how a page looks in IE, say, I can open that instead, and take a look.. Close it, and it’s done. No big. Just trying another browser isn’t changing anything on your computer… It’s merely opening another program… You download it and “install” it, but it just sits there until you use it.
Anyhow… I’m not really awake yet, any indications to the contrary notwithstanding…But Monkey, soon’s I’m actually up, stop on by the salon…If you see a light on in the kitchen, the coffee and banana bread are on the way…
Oh no Suzy…!!! I gots contacts at BS Coach & Limo… His name is Louie… But he goes by“Lurch”…. he jest got his permit back, (after that slight parking dispute at the BSMD Parade) but he’s lookin ta get his “hours” in… an besides… he’s got beverages on bored..!!I’ll have him pick us up after mah ’pointment..!!
Stelbel… while the Monkey is napping after his…. ..anyway…No, no harm.they’re just programs. It’s like having both Word and Paint open.
As for the MSN browser,MSN Explorer, I believe…. haven’t seen it in years, didn’t know it was still aroundbut if it’s still like it was 10 years ago…..It was MSN’s answer to the similar AOL browserIn my analogy to glasses, those two would be like wearing glasses with wide frames that obscure a large part of your vision….they have “controls” and links and all sorts of stuff you don’t need available every minute placed all around the edges or in a huge “dashboard” design, leaving a much smaller “window” available to “look through.”You would find FireFox, or even IE8 or Chrome, to be more like wearing wire-rims….might have to visit a bookmark or tab to get your e-mail, but you’ll get a much bigger and freer view of the online “world,” and have room to keep multiple overlapping windows open, to switch between. Thanks to x_Tech, I finally figured out how to make opening strips in a separate window work right, (he told me to use the title, not the comments link) so I always do that with strips…. and my comics page is still open in another Firefox window when I’m here on Ballard St.
BTW — Sorry Larry — can’t remember much about Opera but I ran into things it was incompatible with and never tried again… so far.
ooops… I hear the Monkey….Monkeeee…. ready to go?Let’s have some more coffee first, OK?
OK, it downloaded very quick (less than a minute). Obviously, I don’t know all the features yet, but basically it works like any browser for the basic stuff. I’m noticing the comics loaded up faster, and are formatted slightly differently than I used to, but for the better so far. I was just able to make the comment box bigger to see what I am typing. That’s new! (NOTE: I still have my MSNExplorer and IE to use whenever I want. Go ahead and try this. If you don’t like it, you can always uninstall. And, it is free!)
We’re being VERY good… After all, I want the Monkey to win, too! He’s trying on shoes right now. Anyhow, on firefox, control + should enlarge text but not images or frames. If it enlarges everything, go to the View menu and check the box that says text only.
@ SSI can’t seem to submit REPLY. It allows my to type a comment in a REPLY box, but I can’t SUBMIT it. Also, the right side of the box is “open”, and once my typed text gets close to the right, itdisappears, and doesn’t return to the next line for 5-6 words. I’m not sure how else to explain it.
Good night everyone! I’ll stop back in the morning.(PS: so far, I like Firefox. Still have to figure out what’s going on with the REPLY box, though. As Scarlett said, “I’ll think about it tomorrow…..”
G’night Stel…!!!Hey Suzy… I’m hungry after all this shoppin’… What say we git Lurch to take us to this real quaint Italian restraint restaurant for some linguini an’ wine…? Mah treat..!!!
Hi X — sorry about that spill!Glad you’re OK, though…. whew!
And sorry, I think I answered to Beviek when I meant StelBel, about the reply messages… it gets confusing when I’m trying to keep up with who said what, and type on a tiny virtual keyboard, while out and about…. especially with a monkey!
Thanks for answering that, X — and Beviek, Ill investigate that downloading issue as soon as I can.
Of course, I already have t so I can’t follow all the steps….but you may have downloaded it when you thought nothing was happening.More later…
Monkey!I was only playing with my phone for a few minutes cos you were snoring!
But as long as you’re awake now….
and btw it’s not an I-phone cos I don’t have an i-anything…it’s an android phone…which probly means nothing to a monkey…. Never fear… I know stuff that might mean more to a monkey….I’ll be right there….Bev — before I go — it wouldn’t have installed itself… only downloaded the installation program….especially if you clicked “save” instead of “run”.That’s something I’ve done accidentally.
If that happened, it’s in a folder, probably the last one you downloaded anything to…. could be “Downloads” or My Documents" or “My Pictures”…
I’m on my way, Monkey!…
As soon as I can I’ll get back to checking it out…..but…. right now…. you know…. and um… everything is…kinda….
Thanks for the tip. I will remember to keep “REFRESHED”!!!(and, I sure that won’t be the only tip I’ll need in the next few days, as I become accustomed to Firefox! )
Thanks to x_Tech and SusanSunshine for a their help and advice re:Firefox. Thanks to IMudd for weighing in on what’s working for you (really appreciate the info). And, thanks Number Two for clue-ing [sic] me in re: life’s little idiosynchosies on Firefox.
Not that I was ever “typo” free (I wish!), but I do seem to be making more typos than usual! Must be all this Firefox excitement…….(Please excuse the typos above, and correct as needed. Thank you.)
(and, here I am back at MSNExplorer! The last 10 minutes were sheer frustration! I typed out a comment, and could not see the last 4-6 words on each line. I know how to make the comment box bigger, but couldn’t do that. After several tries, I was finally able to highlight all the text so that I could copy it and put it into a new comment box - I should include that although I tried to REFRESH, something was preventing that action - and it wouldn’t paste into a new box! I cannot believe that these quirks are something you , who have Firefox, deal with all the time, because if you do, I heartily recommend MSNExplorer, where at least, I don’t have those issues! Others, yes. Those, no. On MSN, I cannot make the box bigger, but if there’s a lot of text, a side slider bar appears, so I can proofread and make sure it’s to my liking. I feel like I’m missing some key “thing” on FF. I will keep trying…)
So, here is what I was in the middle of saying before being interrupted with TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES:
I figure one of you should know the answer to this question. I’ve been so preoccupied of late with changing how I browse, that I’ve completely lost track of time. Just WHEN is this election?? How much time do we have to get this “show on the road?” (I was going to say, "How much time do we have to get “this monkey off our back?”, but thought better of it….)I’m starting to panic. I don’t feel that we’re well organized at all. Of course, I usually get this way before any deadline, but I also usually know when the deadline is…
OK. I give up. The above comment box is my fourth (and final, at least for this morning) attempt, and I still couldn’t get it all correct. The line through the text up there shouldn’t be there. I made sure there were spaces everywhere. I think there’s a saboteur at work here. Where isLinguist ? (he would be the likely suspect, I think).
Please don’t let my little “frustrations” deter you. It’s most likely not FF that’s at fault, but me getting used to it. And, remember: we can always UNINSTALL !!
You ALL have worked SO hard this week, it’s time to relax…Please join me this mornin’ poolside for some French roast, croissants, and fresh fruit for breakfast and we can discuss champaign campaign strategy… And if you have no other plans, I will put some shrimp and yak ribs on the barby a little later…. my tiki bar will open… Uh, well, it’s always open…!!If you forget your swimsuits, that’s ok… (I got extras)…
Phew…. very hot here today and I’ve been out in the sun….so my memory could be faulty…But don’t believe everything you read or hear…remember the Monkey has enemies (or at least an enemy)and there are lots of ugly roomers about …
Ears everywhere…. but o checks for accuracy…
Stories get passed along….and if somebody WANTS to get a Monkey in trouble…
As for seeing the monkey out dancing…. when did he have time to….I mean…. Monkey? Did you?
And OK, I was keeping a really good eye on him in the shops…. but I couldn’t watch him every second … like when I was answering browser questions on my smartphone….or when I went to the ladies…
So maybe he swung on a couple of lights…. and landed on the shoes…..but he was only shopping.I mean… I gotta ask you….Do they want to sell shoes or not??
Stelbel! I did try on that very dress…. and really loved it….And thanks Bev!…. but I decided it was just a little young for me… and I should be careful about my image when I’m working on the campaign…
But I was about to post those shoes myself!Aren’t they adorable?Alas, they told me they didn’t even make them in my size… only up to size 7 GIRL’S.
Same thing with these wonderful slippers:
Only kid’s sizes! Again, I ask you….Do they want to sell shoes or not??
Guess I’ll head over to the Monkey’s house and see whether anybody is still at the pool…
though you probably all went home by now…hope everybody had a good time.Forgot to say earlier…. nice browsers, x_Tech…Hmmmm…. wonder whether Stel got her MSN Explorer at her antique browser store….
I’ll have to think about all those FireFox issues later when it’s cooler…but I have to say, given a choice between being able to use the reply function and being able to have a large font in the comment box…wow, I’d take the latter every time. You can always type in someone’s name… since a reply posts at the bottom anyway…but being able to see what I type is an amazing bonus.
Those mean shoe companies don’t make the ones Stel and I posted in my size….but I did find these!Yay!I’ll bring them over so you can see what I look like with monkey feet!My toes are kinda short for a monkey, though.
Just got a email from the Ballard County Voter Registrars Office, and they have assigned a date for the “special election” to fulfill the vacated position of Ballard County Sheriff. (the one in which “yours truly” is interested in fulfilling)And, as luck would have it, they have chosen NOT to wait til the national election day in November… (whew!) But have assigned the third Tuesday in August…. which happens to be a certain Munkey’s Birthday!!! It sounds like a ways off…. but I’m shure the time will fly qwikly, an before ya know it… there’ll be a NEW Sheriff in town…!!!+++++++++++++++++++++Oh Suzy…!!!Dems the nicest toe warmers I EVER did see…!!! (can I touch ‘em??? I promise I won’t tickle… unless of course you really, um …. you know…. uh….. ++++++++++++++++++++++hey I REALLY enjoyed the weekend with EVERYBODY…!!!Glad to share teh munkey pool wit mah frends too!!!Okay… time to hit teh sack…!!! Phew…. very hot here today and I’ve been out in the sun….so my memory could be faulty…But don’t believe everything you read or hear…remember the Monkey has enemies (or at least an enemy)and there are lots of ugly roomers about …
Ears everywhere…. but o checks for accuracy…
Stories get passed along….and if somebody WANTS to get a Monkey in trouble…
There is always someone _else_who will listen….
