If you want to improve your luck, Horace, try throwing some salt… in the house owner’s eyes, just before you run away.
It really wouldn’t have worked in any case. If the horseshoe had hung up on the line, the open end down would have let all the good luck fall out anyway.
Maybe he should have used some bailing wire to hold the shoes together.
