The problem isn’t the prevalence of firearms it is the prevalence of criminals. The real irony is that arming the honest citizens just could be the cure for the disease of too many criminals.
Law-abiding citizens are not the problem. It’s the criminals, who are already law-breakers, that are the problem. And no, those quoting statistics here are conveniently twisting them to serve their socialist agenda. The reality is that legal gun ownership is at an all-time high, and crime is at an all-time low. Coincidence? I don’t think so. People use knives, baseball bats, tire wrenches and cars to commit crimes and kill people all the time. But I don’t see anyone advocating making it illegal to drive to a ball game, making it illegal for a private citizen to change one’s own flat tire, or making it illegal to attempt to cut a steak with a utensil other than a fork. There are lies, there are damned lies, and there are statistics.” If the hoplophobes and the socialist left-leaners would shut up, there’d be no problem. Put a “season” on gang members and thugs — no problem. Remove the gangstas, thugs and criminals from the population, no problem. Heinlein had it right.
