“… but when we die, our bodies become the grass. And the antelope [or the hogs?] eat the grass. It’s all part of the circle of life.”- Mufasa, the Lion King.
Excellent arc on farming..As a gardener and former [grass fed] cattle rancher it suprises me how many people have no idea where their food originates, how it is treated. or the amount of work and conditions involved. During the real estate boom a lot of farms were lost. Individual farms like the above are becoming a thing of the past. .The story about the zoning laws was interesting.
The difference between “dedication” and “commitment.” Your eggs and bacon for breakfast? The hen that lays the egg that you eat, produces about 1 a day. That’s dedication. The hog (okay you PC’er’s, Pig!) that gives you the bacon, does so once in his/her lifetime, and does it by giving up their life. That’s commitment.

Well, that’s one advantage to being the runt: he’ll get picked last to be made into bacon, pork chops, etc., if ever.

I don’t see anything wrong with both… I can wax poetic about bacon.

If they’re really lucky, those piglets will achieve their highest possible purpose: being made into Spam.

This story line is running somewhat parallel to US ACRES where the runt of a litter is doing quite well.

I love bacon, ham and sausage . . . but I’d probably love it all a whole lot less if I had just witnessed 9 cute little piglets being born!
