Bucky: Clippy! Come here, boy!
Satchel: Mr. Pincher! Over here! Why won't the clipboard come to one of us?
Bucky: It's thinking.
Satchel: It's been thinking for, like, an hour now.
Bucky: Truly, this clipboard has free will.
NyukNyuk, pleases accept my condolences on the loss of your cat. Losing a pet can be very sad indeed. They work their little ways into our hearts. And, alas, because their time with us is so short, our hearts are destined to break.
This is fun. “Free will” means that you have a choice: you can make a rational, unforced decision, and act on it. An inanimate object, like a clipboard (or a member of the [fill in the blank] party) has no choice, or power to decide anything…so, no free will there..Those who can’t tell those two categories apart, like Bucky and Satchel — and people who swear at their computers, or their cars :) — are in a class by themselves.

As one who carries a clipboard regularly, it would be nice if it would come when called. Clippy. I like that for a name. Pincher sounds too painful.

I think it died to be free

And like most people with free will, they don’t do anything useful with it…

It either has free will or is stubborn — or both.

A clipboard with “free will?” Did it once belong to Neil Peart? Or even Ayn Rand?

It’s getting confused with two people calling it two different names. I’d stay still for an hour too if that happened to me!
