Frazz by Jef Mallett for July 05, 2012
Transcript:
Caulfield: The last real skirmish of the revolution was in August of 1782. Five months later, England says the war is over. Two months after that, America declares it done. Nine months after that, we ratify the treaty of Paris. Can this government do anything fast? Frazz: Maybe a patient government is a good one.

Well, we’re really good at doing things half fast…..

Yes, messages went at the speed of wind at that time. As the ship flies.

@chireef. Even though the Supreme Court found for the Cherokee, pres. Jackson said “let them enforce it” and sent the army to kick them off their land. They never did get paid either.

I thought the amount of time it took for all of this was pretty quick. This was back when boats took six weeks with no motor to cross the ocean. If you sent a message on land, it was via horseback. There was no electricity, so you couldn’t do much at night. I think it’s miraculous when the government gets anything done, in spite of all of our marvelous technology. lol

jessegooddoggy, well then, using a crocodile for a canon probably is a silly idea too!

pluddleglum: What do you mean “inept” reporter. He worked for a corporate medium, doing his job of brainwashing the public to do the corporations’ bidding, and he succeeded (helped by a Brooks Brothers mob storming a ballot count and a junta getting a substantial minority of their income from the Koch Speaking Agency, of course). Sounds rather ept to me – not ethical nor patriotic, but what do those outmoded values count for today?

@Varnes, Of course using a crocodile is silly; you use a gator.

Our true, legal, Independance Day was after the Treaty of Paris when Parliament and King George III accepted the outcome of the Revolutionar War. Untill then, the colonies belonged to the Throne.

It can sure ram-rush through the Patriot Act and a monstrous health care bill (both so-called) without really knowing or understanding what’s in either legislation. You know… pass it so we can read it later to understand what’s in it per Nancy Pelosi.

Back in those days, it took almost 2 months to cross the Atlantic. Communications were just slow because of distance. It took that long for the news to get around.
