It’s weather related, all right, but it’s in’clem’ent weather!

Formalized punishment yes. But beating them?The only time my mother’s corporal punishment worked was with rational verbal back up. All the times she just hauled off and whacked us in anger only reinforced that she was crazy nuts and not to be trusted.
