Student slide rules were often white, but professional slide rules were yellow to be easy on the eyes for 12 hour days, and also so they would be easy to find among mountains of white paper, or so I once heard from a guy who knew a guy.

As someone quite old enough to have used a slide rule, some of them were white, some were yellow. It didn’t depend on any student vs. pro distinction, that’s just the way they were. Damn glad I don’t have to use one any more, I’ll tell you.

Have 2 in the house, my old Deci-Trig-log-log I used back before the TI100 came out and a cheap knock off from Geeks.com has a gift for someone – not yet given.
