I hope there’ll be fireworks and hot dogs. Or at least, french fries.

First Canada Day, then the 4th of July, now Bastille Day. Any other countries celebrating their independence in July?

The name and the associations of “Thermidor” also inspired a very good French-language film (iironically it was Swiss-made) about two girls pcking everything in to go on a Thelma and Louise style road-trip during a hot summer.. Some crime was involved so it was only a matter of time before the flics found them. It might well have inspired Hollywood to nick the central idea and do “Thelma and Louise”….

Aaaagh…. bad memory… must apologise… the film (road movie from 1979 that may have been “borrowed” to make “Thelma and Louise”) was called “Messidor” and that was the month before Thermidor….
