It’s a custom in some parts of the world to tie shoes, etc. to the back of a newly-married couple’s car as they leave the wedding or reception venue for their honeymoon. Since today’s toon is set in the Arctic, those are snowshoes at the back of the sled.

and by using snow shoes, it will obliterate the tracks of the sled and the in-laws won’t be able to follow the happy couple on their honeymoon
