Granted Assad is miserable scum, but, how come Samoza, also miserable scum, was “defended” when HIS corrupt government was being overthrown in a rebellion of the people? Odd how revolutions are “good” when WE support them, and “bad” when the scum being overthrown, like Pinochet, and numerous others, are getting tossed.
The proper thing to do in this case is, well, nada! Let the people decide, just as they attempted in ’91 when GHW refused to support Shia in the south, but DID support Kurds in the north, with minor actions. Sometimes less, would have been a LOT MORE!
“Global politics” IS COMPLEX, but America usually goes for the “easy out”, on decisions, and “positions”, and thus, screws up.
