If I were there, I would rather be alone so I could enjoy it. Tom has top put up with them instead of sitting on the beach enjoying the view.

He might be Gretel’s child, anyway.
Tom should know from past experience that talking to Gretel isn’t very effective. Unless the effect he’s looking for is to be beaten mercilessly.
At this point, I would have told Scotty to go with me – and then do an exchange: Todd for Scotty….
Why doesn’t Tom just use that raft to go away and never come back? Being adrift would be an improvement over this situation.
