I suspect that car dealerships would prefer that you never open the hood. Keep the car owners stupid and charge them more for service. Or just drive your car till it dies and go buy another… ;-)
this is no joke and may happen pretty soon… local garage repair $100. dealer same job $700. and some of the things can only be done by the dealer… computer codes, proprietary parts, special tools to do some things, throw a way major components… just had a radiator put in our Explorer, said they had to take it out from beneath the car (?).. worked on cars my whole life… job should have been $100. (see above)
i used to sell used cars…a recent customer came back claiming he couldn’t find the spare tire. what makes this worse is it was a suburu, back when they put the spare tire on top of the engine.Soooo, this means they didn’t even look at the engine before they bought the car?
hmmmmm….
If you look closely at the hood you will see there is a seal on it like comes on lots of things to keep/intimidate people from opening the device. Had on one just about every computer I have owned and if you obeyed it you could never add memory or hardware. It is used as a way to get folks to use the manufacturer to make the changes. With newer cars with the sensors and computers, it makes sense for many people to let others do the work.
