Do you realize government jobs include the police, fire department, teachers, garbage, librarians, and most of the people who make it possible for you to live your miserable complaining life? Who builds the roads you drive on? Government people work very hard, unlike most CEOs, or, say, cartoonists who can only do cheap jokes they steal from other sources.
I agree with you jeffc42. I was Federal employee for 33 years and worked my a$$ off. I felt my job was important and I helped people everyday….so sorry randayn and Eric and Bill, no chuckles here
I work for local government and trust me, there is NO opportunity for career advancement. No raise for 5 years, no market adjustments, increase in healthcare costs, increase in responsibilities, and any financial issues that affect the Fed or State level trickle down to the local level – so we get hit with it. It’s tough to be a government employee right now. Why do I stay? To help the citizens of the county. So unless this refers to having a job in a political level (like @lcdrlar said, congressional jobs), please don’t put us on that same level. Apples & oranges….
I used to work for local government. At that time, job security and benefits were better than the private sector, but the pay was much worse and the hours were generally terrible. There was little opportunity for advancement, other than to go work for a different municipality. As time has passed, job security and benefits have decreased, salaries have stagnated, and the same amount of work is spread amongst fewer workers. The one thing that hasn’t changed is the public’s attitude against the public sector worker.
I undestand this was just a cartoon, but the previous commentors are right. The public thinks the public sector jobs are as easy as pie, but they don’t realize that the jobs are just as hard for less pay. Think about it this way, have you ever seen a person who retired from the private industry try to get a public job? Most of the time the public employees retire to find jobs in the private industry. Added to the pay, the constant fear that we will be out of a job once this fiscal year ends, because congress hasn’t approved a budget yet is also there.
In California gov workers thrive- retirement benefits good—-plus if investments don;t pan out, the general public is obligated to bail out state retirees and guarantee retirement benefits—-this irks off a lot of people, so cartoon will rings true for many

Local, state, or Federal? Not that it makes much difference…

Probably talking more about the Congressional jobs (Politicians and their advisory staffs/cabinets).

Technically, we ALL work for the government, and pay for the opportunity if actually receiving a PAY check.
