The Olympics were originally about individual achievement, and still are. While “national pride” IS fine, especially with team sports that didn’t exist in the “original”, the obsession with vicarious “credit taking” in the U. S. has gotten absurd.
The idiocy of stealing credit if they win, and heaping blame for “embarrassing the nation” if they fail, is the, actually, ultimate expression, of “conservative” thought in the years since WW II.
I give all credit to the ATHLETES, win or “lose”, because just MAKING IT TO THE OLYMPICS IS A HUGE ACCOMPLISHMENT! Congratulations to ALL the athletes who compete!
