I don’t ever remember having to have a “Close to Home” explained to me before….This is reminiscent of Gary Larson’s praying mantis listening to the Victrola…I don’t get it.

I think the joke is that the teenager is getting away from the possibilities of babysitting that bunch that is moving in.
