I was told that on the Motown 25th (or was it 30th?) anniversary show, Stevie Wonder was set up outside a pay phone booth (remember those? — hey, you buy the premise, you buy the bit) while some guy threw quarters at the phone, calling various girls and telling them, “I just called to say I love you.” When he ran out of change and started to walk away, Stevie said, “That sounds like a song.” “I just called to say I love you?” the guy asked. “No,” replied Stevie, “Part-Time Lover,” into which he swung.
