Now she’ll look for another sucker as a barrista. And where did trhe espresso machine come from (as in who paid for it)? Or was that her severance check, I forget. Good ol’ CRS!
No, Jesus was the original Commie. If you don’t believe me check Rand’s statement to that effect. Blaming Marx for Stalin is like blaming Jesus for the Spanish Inquisition. Marx looked at unfettered Capitalism and felt it was bad and couldn’t last; he was right , it did not. The clamor to return to the system of his time amazes me and is only possible because many have forgotten what those conditions were like.
As an aging New Leftist, I’m pretty familiar with the works of Dr. Marx. It’s true, he would have been as horrified by Leninism as we are today. But, still, there were people at the time (e.g.Mikhail Bakunin) who saw the danger of the development of a ruthless oligarchy in Marx’s ideas. I’m not willing to completely exonerate him.And Jesus never claimed to be pushing a practical, political philosophy. Marx did, so that it worked out badly in practice is definitely a justified complaint.
As for that sociopath Ayn Rand, there is no better line than Paul Krugman’s:“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other involves orcs.”

Ayn Rand recognized the value of labor in voluntary exchanges and would not approve of Jane taking advantage of her friends.
That being said, this is still a pretty cool strip.
