Given that the copyright date on this strip (and many of the most recent previous ones) is 2008, I think we’ve been getting reruns for some time. Were there any plans for new strips before his retirement?

Anybody who’s been following the Blog [orange B button at right] and the GoComics frontpage announcements should know how, when, and why the strip has to be ended indefinitely and that repeats, from day one, in order, begin appearing Monday. As for today’s—I marvel at how much faster the kids get over “it” than grownups do, even smart ones like Madeline…. There’s probably a lesson for us in that.

Richard, you know how much we’ll miss you and the new strips – but I hope you also know how much we wish you well. You are in our thoughts and/or prayers.

Kind of late in the day to post this, but I didn’t get the idea very long ago. It’s my tribute to Richard Thompson, in the form of the text of a hypothetical Sunday strip:First Panel: Alice is in Petey’s bedroom. Petey, of course, is propped in bed with a Little Neuro book on his lap.Alice: “So Mr. Thompson is going away because he’s sick. He’s our drawer and the makes up what we do.”Petey: “I hope he makes up that I’ll say here in bed reading Little Neuro.”

Fourth panel: She’s running to the right, to parents: Peter says, “It’ll be ok, honey. You’ll still have us!” Madeline: “Your dad’s right. We’ll still have one another’s love.” They hold out their arms toward Alice. To the extreme right, motion lines are leading off the panel, and the tip of a small wheel is visible. Peter adds, “Well, it’s time.”

Fifth panel: From left, a voice balloon says, “Bye, Mr. Thompson!” Peter, Madeline, and Alice are together near the left, waving. Peter and Madeline say, “Bye, Richard!”Alice says, “Bye, Mr. Thompson!” From the mail slot in the door, a voice balloon says, “Bye, Mr. Thompson!” In the middle of the room, a toddler on a kiddie cart is stopped, facing the reader. The toddler says “UH-oh!”

Petey’s last comment in the first panel should be, “I hope he makes up that I’ll stay here in bed reading Little Neuro.”

Richard, you and your comic are both great. Cul de Sac is an unsung that needs coloring books and Happy Meal prizes, bubble baths and fruit loops :)

Dear Richard, I don’t have original words to say, but many have said what’s in my heart. I’ll just have to say “Live long and prosper.”

Oops – was copying my stuff, above, and accidentally deleted the second and third panels. Here they are again:
Second panel: Alice is dancing. She says,“I can go ’round and do anything I want! ANYTHING!!” WOO-HOOO!"
Third panel: Alice puts her hands on her face. “Or maybe I CAN’T do anything at ALL! WAAAHH!”
