At least dogs have enough decency to leave poo on top of the sand, where it can be seen and avoided.

“By burying its head in the sand, the ostrich at least gives the impression that its head is the most important part of it.” —Katherine Mansfield. It’s people who bury their heads in TV and Internet to ignore what’s happening around them. Ostriches are strong and agressive enough to just kick the crap out of anything that offends them.

“When the ostrich buries its head in the sand, it is not only taking an irresponsible attitude, but is presenting an irresistible target.” Abba Eban And no, they don’t bury their heads, but sometimes lie with their neck on the ground so they present what looks like a mound of vegetation. Females incubate in the daytime where their mottled brown plumage looks just like dead plant matter. Males incubate at night where their black plumage disappears into the darkness. What they can’t out kick, they can outrun.

Cats were originally from the desert, North Africa. That’s probably why they like sleeping in the sun.
