Oh, I am not liking where this is going, knowing what they did with Petey and what they do with mutants this can’t be pretty but at least we know Flask survived whatever-happened-to-her, she’s tough as nails! I love that about her!!!!
…and this definitely explains (and will continue to explain) why Flask goes cat-atonic whenever she confronts Topsiders directly. D= At least we do know that she survives whatever happens next, and that she at least has AM with her as she tells this part of the story.
Granted, we are several years in the “past” and things change with time, but this seems to be a very different world from the one (we thought) we knew. Given the fact that “Typhoid Marys” were being studied inside TS facilities, it is not unreasonable to assume that some form of interrogation is in the cards, but this is certainly different from the TS response to Linda after her mutation. Curiouser and curiouser….
Cat-Flask has used a zero gun, or something that sure looks like one; on her two Endtowner assistants, and on TSers on the surface. Now I wonder if Mallard altered one for her to use.
This appears to be a capture order. Her weapon was probably tampered with, the PT tampered with. All designed to some dark purpose. TSers command types were probably aware of what she had been up to. She thought she was clever but I imagine they were well aware of her thoughts and misgivings. Their motives a mystery soon to be played on the board. Remember her conversation in the PT after she found out the missile she was trying to use was fake. They called her the chief architect of that mission. Again they had a capture order. Kill the others take her alive. Flask had to have been a high ranker. They may even considered using her as a mole to infiltrate the various mutant settlements. Lover as a lever to force her cooperation. Her own mutation would get her inside. Remember this is her start. We already know how she ended up. Again I sit here listen to old BOC music. Buc Dharma rocks. Rivals Jimmy Page.
BOC is good, but I’ve seen them twice and neither time did they play “I Love the Night,” which is my favorite BOC tune. “Buck’s Boogie” is a good instrumental from waaay back in the day, too.

“A sickening thought Would any mother put up with that.”
The Spartans of ancient Greece did do that type of choice. Dispose of what was not usable. Their society did not accept imperfections. This is actual history from the Greek historians. They of course had no use for the brains. But accepting the decisions on imperfections. I do not see the Topsiders upper class having issues with that. Others? not in the elite. Maybe that is where the riff is. Flask as ranker may have developed the same feelings. That would cast her in a not so acceptable light with her fellow elite. Therefore suspect, not to be fully trusted, watched. But don’t make it look obvious.
I’m beginning to think that the “Typhoid Mary” might not be Petey. The TSers dissect Typhoid Mary’s, they don’t appear to harvest their brains. Perhaps Petey is someone who rescues her from this current predicament.
And to Three Steps Over. I still believe there is a “conspiracy” Why else would Flask be portraited as both heroine (saving a Typhoid Mary) and villian (trying to get revenge by killing over 8,000 topsiders) by the author. She states “Given my rank..” in an earlier panel this makes reference to her being important. She would have been given “inside” information. It would be like all the German people knowing what the "Work and Resettlement Camps’ were ahead of time. The truth disqusted her. She could no longer follow the dogma. Her attitude changed as a Topsider. No history is given if she made these feelings know to others of the elite but if word got out like talking to a friend or just saying “I have issues with this.” Her superiors would not be happy leading to something that is really going to test her resolve. To quote a song. “I see a bad moon arising.” The ride will begin. Kuddos to the author.
It is obvious a sonic stunner so that they can get their brain donaters alive..We’ve seen several (fuzzy wuzzy) mutants captured (Leo, Allie, W&H) and this is the first time someone has been stunned. Does a different technique imply a different intent? Time will tell.We know Flask escapes somehow, and I’m betting we (and she) haven’t seen the last of Petey yet. Can’t begin to imagine how he might pull it off, but if ever there was a setup for “turnabout is fair play” this would seem to be it.
A thought came to mind. Obviously she does escape as this is past. She is definitely minus the tail in the current time. Why lose the tail? She managed to get Topsider equipment to work for her. Lets see, remove tail, kept same size and build, make Topsider stuff work for her. Hmmmm. That might explain why they wanted her so bad at the missile site. She would easily have been able to infiltrate TOPSIDER sites in her time probably causing them great discomfort. They would want to capture the most wanted mutant being a thorn in their side. After all she easily walked into the control dome. They were just waiting for her. She knows all of Endtown’s secrets. She would be a good catch either way. We have only just started her journey.
“As to Flask’s lack of tail as a mutant…she mutated to a Manx breed!”Heh, yeah, that’s it!If you look at panel 1, it seems that there’s a fairly long, fairly bushy tail under that suit. She’s going to get bobbed, and it’s not going to be a personal lifestyle decision used to infuriate her parents…

To Three Steps over Japan. Thanks for the insiteful info. That does clear up some issues. By conspiracy I meant to say there is a reason not just to blast her or harvest her brain. She has value to them. Since she is the scientist for the missile project Topsider or Mutant she would be needed. All they would need is leverage to keep her on the project. If they have Lover boy. They have what they need. In their suits they fear no contamination so bringing her into an area would not be dangerous to them. There has to levels in the Topsiders environment. They were bringing in Typhoid Marys into the facility but they were still in the suits. We have this in my line of work. Decontamination levels to get into and out of a contaminated area. She could continue her work in level acceptable to them. Lover in a gunsite or trussed up for processing to make sure she finishes what she began. It will be interesting to see how this works out. We know the rocket got built. With or without her help.
" Since she is the scientist for the missile project Topsider or Mutant she would be needed."If the Topsiders are as arrogant as we’ve been told, the last thing they would want is to create a situation where they work for, or are dependent on, a mutant. They’d rather kill the project right there, than have a mutant continue to work on it.
The Top Siders sound a lot like Nazi Germany. They refused Much of the talent of the time by refusing Jewish scientists. If the Allies did not have those scientists help, we might not have won WWII.
