Transcript:
Janis: Mary Lou, everyone is a little...uptight! Is there anything I can do?
Mary Lou: Well...
Mary Lou: It isn't exactly a graduation reception!
Janis: Why not?
Gene: For one thing, I haven't graduated!
Lemme guess. Mary Lou is upset about the ‘dress casual’ thing that Gene got wrong, because ‘dressy casual’ consists of wearing something nice but easy-going to a WEDDING???
Aug. 21, Gus said to Gene, “You’re the first college graduate in our family.” When Mary Lou rolled her eyes, we thought it just was a reaction to his dig, not to her biting her tongue.
WTF was Gene doing all summer at school? Colleges now a days can be tricky and change the required courses you need to complete your degree so they can make as much money off you as possible. it’s all about the money!
Janis asks if it’s about the ‘graduation reception’ and MaryLou responds ‘It isn’t exactly a graduation reception’. Hardly anyone uses the word ‘reception’ in speaking of a graduation party. But they certainly use the word ‘reception’ for something elllllse….a lot! And Gene and MaryLou were worried her daughter would say too much, it’s looking like a wedding reception or possibly a baby shower.
“For one thing, I haven’t graduated.” Would they, the College execs, write him off just because he didn’t attend the graduation ceremony a few weeks ago? They shouldn’t have if he finished all his classes.
Don’t pull your poor mother’s leg, Gene. Shame on you!
Yes, I’m as curious about what’s happening as all the rest, but it’s too early for a baby shower, so I have to lean towards a small wedding ceremony too. All they have to do is take the party out a few miles from land in the boat and then Arlo can perform the marriage ceremony. Go kids!!
Hmm. I do not know what to say. Gene did not graduate, yet there is a big party of some sort. I still think it would be rude to have a wedding or elopement party after all the planning and what not had gone on before. A retirement party does not seem particularly likely (the dressy casual is not necessary), a baby shower could be a possibility, but seems unfortunate as a party if they are just springing that news on their parents. So, I am flummoxed.
1. you have to petition to graduate a semester or two before you are scheduled to graduate.2. they do a course work review3. a. they tell you that you are going to graduate b. they tell you what course(s) you need to graduate
Flunk? Oh yes, that still happens…..take me for instance….I’d been going to school, and teaching school for what amounts to 40 years….I’d always been able to absorb the information and knock out a B paper late Sunday night. But one day I ran out of steam and couldn’t do it any more. The taking of classes all the time is what I’m talking about….the teaching is fine….

Why are Gene’s elbows bent backward???
```I can put my hand’s like that, and push my elbows forward a little. Maybe Gene’s just more agile than I am. He should be, he’s much younger. :-)
