Go back a little further, and public schools taught good citizenship, and religiously-based ethical behavior. Public education started going into the toilet in the sixties, and it’s never come out..(Yes, ethical humanists, agnostics, and atheists can have the highest ethical standards — only their reasons are different. But the reasons may affect whether you stick to those standards when it’s to your own hurt, which is the real test.)

I always dreaded math class until I was a high school junior. Suddenly there was this caring male math teacher who turned us all onto math. I was suddenly learning probabilities and other kinds of math. One can learn from someone who cares. Sally should feel grateful for Linus’s help.

Math is a horrid subject.
