I only have sons, and while I let them play soccer, hockey, basketball and run track, I did not let them play football or box. The permanent if often unseen injuries in those sports are not worth it.

Hockey! …..Oh… injuries that you can see like half their teeth knocked out is worth it, or scars from the skates blades are worth it?

All sports pose some risk of injury. It really is a shame that Annie couldn’t continue something she enjoyed..Gender bias usually enters a girls life long before school age. When I was a kid, I didn’t understand why I couldn’t run around without a shirt on. All the boys did and I didn’t look any different than them.

… call me a cave-man, but I still think the most basic gender bias happened about a gazillion years ago when males and females turned out different from each other …don’t mean we haven’t historically gone overboard in preventing girls from doing things they’re perfectly capable of doing …but we can also go overboard encouraging competition between genders in areas where one side as a clear and obvious natural advantage.it’s not fair to either side …

Regarding the gender bias, my oldest daughter’s best friend has similar interests as she (Lego, chess, Star Wars, ninjas), which I encourage. Unfortunately her best friend’s father is biased and he can’t believe that girls are just as smart as boys or can be interested in these things. Fortunately her friend has a brother, so she just tags along with him, but I feel sorry for her.Along those lines, I’ve always loved cars, which my parents never understood, so I never got the toy cars that I always asked for. But I did subscribe to Motor Trend for 15 years as an adult. Too bad I had to wait that long.

Brought daughter up to believe she could do whatever she had the brains and dexterity to do. She welds, blacksmiths, cooks, knits, whatever she wants and can do. When she was small a teacher told her she had to wear modest skirts to school l. She said they were not modest because she couldn’t climb monkey bars modestly in a skirt. When told “young ladies do not climb monkey bars” she called the teacher a sexist throwback. She was in a different, more progressive school shortly thereafter

Tresareus: Proper helmets reduce problems in baseball. Counting bicycle kicks and heading the same as catching can do the same in soccer until the joints connect. Kid games for kids, adult for adults.
