Having work in the Texas Driver License service I can say I have actually seen someone do this while on a test. I said what are your doing? He said “Signaling a stop.” " I just want to let the others behind know what I am doing."Seen a driver stop in front of a sign the said " Do Not Pass"The road is marked with double yellow stripes. He just sat there in the middle of the road. I said " What are you doing?"\He pointed at the sign saying “I can’t go any further. I can’t pass that sign.” I said Okay lets go back to the office and discuss it. Test was over.
On a stretch of country road I used to drive frequently, I was once pulled over by a State Trooper after passing someone. Very politely he says “Sir, do you realize that there was a side road coming in on the stretch you just passed in? You’re not supposed to pass when that’s the case.” Told him just as politely that I didn’t realize there was a side road. And that the whole stretch was painted dotted line for passing. Then he said “That’s just the painters. Don’t pay any attention to what they do.” You could’ve knocked me over with a feather. -———These days the stretch including that particular side road is marked for no passing. And they actually installed a stop light.
To rshiveBlame Roads and Constructions. We here in Texas call them TXDOT. I can hear that officer saying that with just the plainest of expression. Then returning to his unit, you drive off, then busting his gut laughing saying Did I say that? Wait till his supervisor reviews the video. To JohnnyDiegoWe wore guns too. Full Trooper uniform. Dark sunglasses, (We were in Texas in the sun). Seen prospects shake sooooo bad. Some unconcerned and drove as such. Did not pass either. Best two storiesGiving a driving test to a teenage. He begins to back up then suddenly stops. His glove box pops open. On to my clip board rolls out this big baggie of marijuana. Yes right onto my clipboard. I just looked over at him through those dark sunglasses. His response. Could you put that back? It was all I could do to maintain the stern Trooper face. That test was over quick. It was after all his friends car.The other was a recent Vietnamese immigrant back during the great evacuation. He came every day for several weeks. He could probably pass except he had one bad habit. We would check the cars everytime to make sure equipment is working. At his door I would do my speech then tell him I am going to the rear to check his lights. He would nod his head saying okay okay. Then without warning would back up and drive off. He would go over the parallel parking and park. Pull out and go into the testing area which was residential streets. Now remember I am still standing at the office. He did not wait for me to get in the car. He came back in exactly 15 minutes. Knew the course by heart. I say No pass and explain why. He would say sorry sorry. He did not do this once it was everytime he came in. Even had the interpreter tell him in his own language what to do and he would still do it. But the killer was over in another office that we would do Saturday work. He showed up over there every Saturday. Different office and test area. Did the same thing over there. Would drive off without the Trooper drive the course and return. Watch the interpreter chase him down the road screaming in Vietnamese at him with no effect. One of many tales from the Texas DPS.
To Jo ClearI stopped a brand new MBenz one day for failing to signal lane change and then failing to signal a turn. The drive just all upset at me for stopping him.I told hime dont get mad at me. Get mad at the MBenz company for making a 100,000 dollar auto that the signals dont work.Similar later stop. Told the driver if I paid as much as you did I would use every bell and whistle on it. I mean push every button if I had a car that cool. She was in a Pantera. Never once used her signals whipping in and out of traffic at about a 100 miles an hour and that was on Loop820 in Fort Worth.Had stopped a vehicle going north on US287. 115 mph. Big black Chevy Tahoe. Got the driver out. A 15yoa kid. Handed me a freshly done driver permit that was 30 minutes old. Dad was in passenger seat. Got him out. His attitude was “What the problem?” I told him why. He got all uppety going on about how he was teaching his kid to drive and he needed to know how to drive fast. Then went on that they were on their way to New Mexico to go on a skiing trip after Jr. got his permit.I just smiled. Told Jr. to press hard while signing as he is making four copies. Told dad to go with him. The Judge would love to hear his explanation also. There is not a citation for STUPIDITY.And I am not making this up. You can’t make this up.
