-In today’s comic, Rose makes an aromatic comment. The GoComics strip hits home with me, since I’ve never had the guts to quit my day job(s) and never sold any of my great American short mystery stories….
WOW, my life. I am retired, still teaching, just published first children’s book. It probably won’t win awards and my part is not going to make me rich. So yes, I have sold a couple of dolls.
Two years fairly evenly divided between biomedical lab research and pizza delivery told me that my place in science was in distribution rather than production, which meant teaching, writing, or librarianship. As a librarian I don’t have to control a classroom; I get a steady salary; and I still get to teach and write.
My series “Shades of Grey” – four titles so far (not self-published) – has been tainted by someone publishing “Fifty etc etc” … Mine are mystery thrillers, first published seven years ago, but sales have been hit, so they are about to be re-titled.

Perils of a full-time writer. I know: I can’t GIVE away my self-published novel: “The Promise of Bisibi.”

And the meaning of “Don’t quit your day job” becomes very clear.

Kind of a bummer that neither the rerun nor the new strip today has anything to do with children.
