all the bad stuff that happened in school tends to fade so that the few good times stand out more and that is all we remember. I disliked school from grade 1 to grade 12. I am just sooooooooo glad I am not in school in this day and age.
Some good times, but mostly neutral to un-good. Like, @Nab, I never went to K; don’t know whether it had been invented yet. Really can’t think of a time that I’d want to go through again. But it is interesting to look back and realize those moments that, if they’d happened differently, would have changed your life.
The more I read the strip and Lynn’s notes, the more I admire her. She puts her flaws out for all to see and criticise, and yet she carries on.
Like many others, I remember grade school as mostly positive, though as my children go through it, I know I was also anxious about forgetting homework, bad spelling grades, friend drama, etc. I know I was lonely in 3rd and 4th grade, and on the outskirts even in 5th and 6th. Then I moved, and in junior and senior high, the only times I was happy was in academic classes.
Now, college/university, I definitely see with rose-coloured glasses, because I did have friends who loved me, and between all the jealousy, there was friendship and belonging.
I only liked school because it meant I didn’t have to be at home. But I hated jr high and high school was just okay. On the other hand, I loved college!Nab and I are in the same age group and Kindergarten definitely existed then. Maybe just not in the area he grew up in.
All pre-college school was horrible, rife with bullies of various sorts. It wasn’t until college that I had some choice in the classes I took and the bullies were left behind.
Aged 1: And not knowing any better. I wouldn’t want to go back to youth unless I could take my knowledge (and wisdom, if any) with me and have the recall speed of around age 40.
School was hell: the teasing ….. the taunting ….. the bullying …..There’s absolutely no way I’d EVER go through those years again for anything in the world!!!!! They never were — and never will be — the “good old days” for me.

I do not long to be back in school, but I had some great times there as well as some forgettable moments. And I don’t miss the homework.

I am so old, it was 1-11.. I was in the last class under that system. My younger sister had to go 12.

I have good memories, some very cringe-worthy memories and some just plain angry memories of all my years in school. I guess we all do.
