At least Skip Bittman is talking to the only folks in town old enough to remember evening edition newspapers.

“And we will no longer hire paperboys to stand on street corners shouting ‘Wuxtra! Readallaboutit!’”

Let the tired old paper die and open up a website

Common solution…..don’t change just upgrade the name!

At first, I thought this story line was in support of local papers. But apparently it is a series on the reasons not to subscribe.

Has any checked on Crankshaft? He hasn’t moved or changed his expression all week. Is he still breathing?

OK, first, yesterday Ed was on his bus. Next, NO papers have a morning and evening edition anymore. They’re lucky if they can print ONE!

We are now in the fourth day of this “story,” and Skippy is still standing next to an easel holding a sign that just says “Centerville Sentinel.” No graphs, no charts, no numbers, no presentation… what’s the purpose of this thing, anyway? Do the shareholders not know the name of the company they own?

Do any evening papers survive as such? The Detroit News was an afternoon paper decades ago.

In the mid-1970s, my brothers delivered the local newspaper after school. Only the Saturday and Sunday papers were delivered in the morning. The delivery truck would leave bundles of newspapers covered by a tarp on a wooden skid at the end of the street. The newspapers were always there. Nobody would steal them.

Nowadays, people steal deliveries right off your front porch.

And free cold pizza with every late newspaper ddelivery

Question: What in Centerville is considered “historical”, with the exception that “Lisa’s Story” has been creeping out of Westview and into every other part of the universe?

Again, many smaller local-level newspapers are now striking deals with the postal service to do residential deliveries.

I tried getting papers by mail delivery. It was no good; the morning papers came in late afternoon. (I don’t get any papers right now).

I can just imagine getting the Sentinel’s morning edition in the evening. Headline: “Sun Will Rise on Schedule This Morning!” Reader: “Well, at least they got their biggest story right.”
